Weglot vs WPML

Weglot vs WPML

*** IMPORTANT 6.6.2019 UPDATE ABOUT WPML***

Due to the rising complaints, I’m getting from users, in addition to a follow up I’ve been trying to make. I sadly inform you that something is wrong with the WPML customer services. Reports are coming in that user support tickets and emails go answered for weeks. Moreover, I personally tried to get a hold of them,  my third email got a response.

However, I failed to get any kind of response after that.

I’m always transparent, and I cannot recommend WPML at this time, if you buy it, do it with your own risk.

Welcome to the Weglot vs WPML StandOff!  If you read my older posts regarding WordPress translation plugins. You will clearly see I prefer WPML. However, this light will shed light on the newest player on the block.

However, Recently a colleague of mine told me about Weglot. Weg..What?  I had no idea what he was talking about. I decided I will check it out and report back. Let’s begin our Weglot vs WPML match.

WPML

WPML vs Weglot
WPML stands for – WordPress Multilingual. It is a paid plugin, comes with 3 different versions which support specific content translations. Meaning, WPML includes a core plugin and several add-on modules to help us handle translation to other sections of the site(plugins/themes etc). WPML makes it easy to run a multilingual website with a single WordPress installation. Work with a big pool of languages, to be specific, WPML comes with over 40 languages.
This frees you from the hassle of editing PO files and uploading MO files. You can translate texts in other plugins and in Admin screens directly from the plugins  String Translation interface.
WPML Plans consists of 3 packages which are priced differently and offer limited to full plugin features. As I said this manifests in the content types and site sections we will want to translate using WPML.

Multilingual Blog

29$, Renewal At 15$ A year.
Provides Translation Support For:
posts, pages, and custom types, tags, categories, and custom taxonomy, WordPress menus, Standard translation controls, Browser language detection.
This is the cheapest and standard version.

Multilingual CMS

79$, Renewal At 39$ A year.
This is the middle package and by far the most sold one. CMS Package extends translation functionality greatly than the basic version. Furthermore, it allows a Woocommerce based website translation.
Key Features added in this version on top of the basic features Are:
custom fields translation, Multilingual E-Commerce Support, admin menus, widgets.

MultilingualCMS Lifetime

195$, No Renewal.
This is the lifetime package, meaning, you pay once and got it for life 🙂 there are talks the guys at WPML are going to discontinue this package. SO if you’re interested in a lifetime license you better hurry. The only difference between this package and the middle one that is priced at 79$ is that the Lifetime Package comes with renewal.

For the full list of features and more information, please visit WPML’s official site at this link: WPML.

WPML Pros:

  • Frequent updates and bug fixes
  • decent support and a big forum for questions.
  • Integrated with most premium themes and plugins.
  • Works with WORDPRESS MULTI-SITE networks.
  • Offers a lifetime version license, Perfect for us developers.
  • RTL Support.

WPML Cons:

  • Paid Plugin.
  • A bit heavier for larger sites and networks (caching provides a viable-partial solution for this ).
  • Large database usage.
  • Slow and “kills” cheap, unstable and poor servers.
  • overwhelming & complex.
  • Complicated User interfaces

In Conclusion of Weglot vs WPML

to sup up, You have seen it by yourselves. The PROS outnumber the CONS with Weglot. I was a convicted believer in WPML, when I started using Weglot I simply cannot go back. The way Weglot does things is simply amazing. In addition to being fast, its UI/UX is so simple. Furthermore, It assets(JS/CSS) are highly compact and optimized.
However, despite all the PROS. Weglot is not yet integrated with as much partners and third-party plugins like WPML is. I consider this its only drawback.
Finally, after seeing and using it by myself,  this is my choice for my next translation projects. Weglot vs WPML Winner: Weglot!

Luckily for you, I’m an official partner with Weglot. Access my dedicated Weglot Coupon page for my partner discount. Weglot Coupon: Weglot Coupon 2019

Furthermore, I m also an Official Partner to WPML, sadly they do not offer coupons at this time, Get WPML.
