Today I’m going to talk about something a bit different than hardcore SEO subjects. I’m going to cover the Yoast SEO meta description field.
Somewhere along the way chances are you had to do some SEO work within WordPress Platforms. Yoast SEO is the best optimization plugin for WordPress based websites. However, it takes some getting used to in order to master it.
Yoast SEO comes in with a ton of optimization features and settings. In this article, I’m going to cover it’s Meta Description field. As we all know, a solid meta description is an important part of SEO. In order to nail it, we just need to keep to the same guidelines as we were writing a description for a regular site.
The description field
Lets cover the main ingredients on a good description with Yoast:
1. Don’t go overboard with charterer length
Keep in mind that despite the fact you are using Yoast, the rules do not change! a recommended description length is up to 160 word, usually, 155 hits the perfect spot. Trust me, you would not like to overdo it.
2. Don’t use passive voice in meta descriptions, instead use active voice
A meta description is most effective when written in first tense, or an active stance.
3. Be sure to include your keywords inside
This is a very important part, a lot of people keep forgetting this. A meta description is like an invitation to your website, it needs to include a summarized snippet of data. For instance: if the article talk about red cars include the phrase “red cars” in the meta.
4. Make sure the meta matches the content
One of the most important things, make sure you are on the same page with your content and its description for search engines. Furthermore, if you update or change your article, don’t forget to update/change the description accordingly. Leaving an outdated and irrelevant meta will not lead to good things.
5. Try to stand out among your competitors – be unique
Let’s face it, the world is a big place, chances are that somebody already wrote about the same subjects you write about. try to be innovative, the meta is the most unique thing that can lead to a click on search results. Moreover, Even the titles can be sometimes the same, yeah it happens if several parties compete on the same phrase.
